The Oaks, Mount Gambier
The Oaks in Mount Gambier was completed in 2012. The project was built on a greenfield site that already contained an operational aged care facility which was to be replaced. The completed facility comprises 42 beds with ensuites, a full commercial kitchen and laundry, living and dining areas, a hairdresser, and diversional therapy, all with staff, administration and support facilities.
The vision was to create a contemporary aged care facility in a rural setting. This was achieved by reflecting the landscape with earthy tones and local stone, and combining this with cutting edge technology through computer controlled air conditioning, lighting and rain sensing self-closing windows. This design was created when PACT was known as Pruszinski Architects.
